Brake supports people who have been bereaved or seriously injured in a road crash, as well as the family, friends and professionals supporting them. Support is provided via highly acclaimed literature and through a nationally accredited telephone helpline staffed by professionals.
Brake’s helpline is a quality accredited service run by trained professionals, experienced in supporting people who have suffered a dreadful experience. They can help in four key ways:
- Emotional Support – providing a listening ear and advising on how to cope;
- Information and advocacy – providing information on the many procedural and practical issues families face after a road crash and/or liaising with officials on a caller’s behalf;
- Accessing legal support – putting callers in touch with specialist legal advisors to assist with a range of legal queries, including civil claims;
- Sourcing counselling and other support agencies – helping to arrange appropriate specialist treatment from an expert either via the NHS or elsewhere. Officers will also signpost callers to other national and local support organisations as appropriate to their needs.
Brake produces a range of literature to support those bereaved or seriously injured following a road crash. Literature includes information and advice to help with the immediate practical issues people may face, coping with emotions and feelings following a crash, criminal prosecutions, and finding appropriate legal support.
